About the event
Banned on both sides of the Atlantic for over a decade from its 1922 publication, Joyce’s Ulysses has gone from being a notorious novel that Joyce’s own aunt – and many others – deemed “not fit to read,” to an Irish classic celebrated around the world every Bloomsday.
This June, The Craic House takes a nighttown stroll through some of the most notorious and glorious passages of Joyce’s “dear dirty Dublin.” It promises to be an evening of Joyce for the bar room, not the classroom, so we’ll have ceol, a competition, and a quiz too.
“Oh my God, the horror of it” was how an early publisher of Ulysses summed up some readers’ reactions to the novel. So, be advised that the language and content of these literary texts may not be to everyone’s taste. Also, please, no video recording of the readers on the night.
The event will be hosted by IAK members Prof. Peter McCauley, and Prof. Patrice Reidy. Please RSVP if you would like to attend.
